Hilarious and romantic

21st January 2010

This is a wonderful series. I laughed out loud so many times. I also love the dynamic of our heroine and the two possible guys. You must read this series from the first book or it wont be as understandable or interesting. You will not be dissapointed with this series. I really hope she writes a fourth book in this series.

Still laughing, Still loving Milagro

04th January 2010

This, the third book in the Casa Dracula series, continues Marta Acosta's tradition of delivering a well fleshed out character (In more ways than one) who delights the reader with her wit, intelligence and downright pluckiness. Our heroine, Milagro De Los Santos, engages us in her quest for a sane and simple wedding, but, of course, this is not to be. It seems everyone wants their finger in this wedding cake. You will definitely laugh and maybe even shed a tear but will be totally enthralled. The next book in the series is due out this year.

The bride of Casa Dracula

20th October 2009

Milagro is finally getting prepared for her wedding to her beloved Oz. Only the vampire Romeo and Juliet feel stories come to a real header when the vampire government want Milagro to sign a loyalty agreement to the vampire nation. Something that makes her feel like she giving up her U.S. citizenship ship if she does and doesn't feel good about as she plans for both her public wedding with wedding adviser friend Nancy and a vampire wedding advised by one of Oz's old girlfriends. She struggle with her do it yourself vampire wedding, dealing with the death of her dog Daisy and new wolf dog friend Pal all the while someone is trying to kill her. I love everything a bout the book except the ending. When it come to romantic books like this trilogy I always refer a Disney style bride and groom live happily ever after over how the writer consider her ending a happy one.

Toat with few pints of blood

01st October 2009

The story so far... Oswald has proposed to Milagro by the end of the 2nd book, they were both thrilled and Milagro couldn't be any happier. She's marrying the one she loves and in turn he loves her back. Her best friend Nancy appoints herself as the Wedding Planner and was doing a fantastic job keeping Oswald's mom at a safe distance while she writes a memoir for the weirdo and self proclaimed shifter Don Pedro, everything seems to be in place. It was her dream come true, until it's not...

I cannot believe the surprises that I got from this book!!! I finished the book at 12mn, mouth hanging open, sighing and grinning like an idiot. I was shocked at the turn of events, sad that it happened and relieved at the same time. Ms. Acosta that was brilliant. Her recipe: the seduction, intensity, hilarity and mystery that is Milagro De los Santos, add more of Ian Ducharme and less of the dull and workaholic Oswald K. Grant, a sexy love scene that was written with passion not pornographic, an unknown killer, subtle werewolf and shifter invlovement. It was perfect. (cheers! to a glass of blood)

Another amazing book from Marta Acosta, this marks the change of everything in Milagros life. It's the book that the fans have been waiting for. Full of intense and emotional scenarios. Milagro's growth of character showed in every chapter of this book. I am glad that she is still herself only better. Bride of Casa Dracula is so far my favorite book in this series. I cannot wait for the release of book 4.

I laughed and smiled my way through this charming story about a fiery Latina vampire

29th May 2009

Plot Summary: Milagro De Los Santos is a proud, curvy Latina with interests in gardening and writing. Her engagement to vampire Dr. Oswald Grant should be a no-brainer, considering that she's also a vampire, but obstacles keep coming up like she's running the 100 meter hurdles. The Vampire Council doesn't recognize Milagro as a card-carrying vampire, and they do everything they can to force her to heel like a dog. Milagro has friends and `frenemies' trying to gain control of her big day, and in the middle of this, a series of suspicious happenings has Milagro suspecting there's a malicious saboteur at work.

Well color me surprised. I picked this one up purely on impulse because of the cover art and title, and while I fully expected this to be a fluffy bit of fun, my expectations as to the writing were modest if not low. I decided to start it this morning with my cup of tea, and as the morning progressed I kept telling myself, just one more chapter, until there I was at lunch time still wearing my bathrobe!

This is an utterly charming book, and Acosta has a way with words that I very much envy. Too many times authors create these sassy, irreverent heroines who are all attitude without evidence of having a soul. Not so with Milagro. Her humanity is ever-present despite her vampire status, and she stands out for being kind-hearted without becoming a push-over. All of the digs Milagro takes for being a full-figured Mexican woman while surrounded by pencil-thin wasps had me grinding my teeth and wondering how white-bread blandness ever became the ideal of anything. Milagro's Latina heritage and personality combine to make her a spicy and unpredictable woman.

The dialog is a real treat, and it constantly snaps, crackles, and pops with humor, sarcasm, and witty insights. I take this story as one more cautionary tale against the perils of planning a big wedding, and it's comical to see how many hoops Milagro must jump through to marry her vampire fiancé. Toward the middle of the book, I felt like I was watching the Titanic sail to its doom, and without giving any spoilers, I'll say that I'm extremely happy with how it ended.

This is the third book in the Casa Dracula series, and I'd recommend this to anyone looking to read some vampire fantasy with a nice dose of romance, heavy on the humor, and non-existent gore. I'll be looking up the first two books for certain; no word on book four yet.
