I use this textbook for my survey courses
01st August 2010
I've used several textbooks for my American survey courses in a community college. This text is excellent for students who are prepared for college work and those who are not. The chapters are engaging, arranged well and give a good structure for what I present in class. Many textbooks give way too much information with no depth and students struggle to determine what is important. One textbook I had inherited used so much information that the authors' lost their way and did not even mention the Monroe Doctrine which is the basis for our foreign policy! (Corrected in a later edition.) I do not use the history lab, so, unlike the reviewer with that problem (which is really the fault of the instructor not the textbook)my students can order this safely from Amazon or it's marketplace and save a bundle!

Very good book, very well put together. The chapters are broken down into similar topics that went on throughout a given amount of time. The decades spreading across a few chapters. Overall very nice history book.
If yr class will be using MyHistoryLab DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK HERE!

Thought i'd save $30 over my local student book store and buy this at Amazon.
Coupled with my wifes overnight shipping it seemed like a perfect deal.
I should have known if it seems too good to be true. It is. And it was.
If your class will using myhistorylab DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK HERE.
It DOES NOT come with the access code you will need for myhistorylab.
You will have to spend another $30 to buy the access code from myhistorylab
thus paying as much for the book as you would have locally.
Caveat Emptor kids.
